In Memory of David Ruiz Vargas lost to Agent Orange in 2014.
David Ruiz Vargas was a SRGT with the 82nd Airborne Division 501 Recon “Tiger Force” in Vietnam.
David passed away June 11, 2014 from multiple health conditions as a result of his exposure to Agent Orange while stationed in Vietnam.
My dad was a wonderful and honorable man. I wish I could have heard more stories of his experiences but he rarely talked about Vietnam.
They were memories he put in the back of his mind. There were times he wouldn’t even stand and be recognized for his service.
At the end of his life, as we began to talk about life he opened up and told me his experiences and what he was exposed to in Vietnam and some tears were shed.
At the end my dad was able to talk about Vietnam and I was even more honored to call him dad. He told me story after story. Even on his death bed he wore his Vietnam cap.
My dad was always a hero in my eyes and it was nice to see him at the end of his journey to finally accept the hero he had always been.
RIP SRGT Daniel Ruiz Vargas 82nd Airborne Division, 501 Recon “Tiger Force”.
Your loving daughter, Veronica M. Castro
